Secondary School "Friedrich Ludwig Jahn"

Freyburg/Unstrut, Germany

Our school is situated in a small town in a rural area. The surrounding is dominated by vineyards because Freyburg is in the most northern winegrowing area of Germany. The administrative town of our region is Naumburg and Leipzig is only 70 km in the north.
In 1980 the school was opened in a newly-built area as the second school of the town. At that time pupils from classes 1 to 10 (6 to 16 years) were taught here. In 2004 several schools were centralized because of the decreasing number of pupils and changes in the educational system of the country.
In our school, pupils are taught according to different guidelines due to their personal skills.
The main objective in education is to provide information supported lessons, which aim at the general preparations of pupils for the future career.
The classes are general, with scientific-technical and social content of subjects, also foreign languages such as English, French and Russian. Pupils are offered groups and optional courses according to their interests, e.g. Art and History of the region. The school cultivates a vineyard. Pupils can contribute themselves with regard to their future choice of jobs, e.g. winegrower.
Pupils with special needs are integrated in classes with no more than 20 pupils and they are supported by specialized external teachers sometimes outside of classes but also in addition to classes.
There are classes from 15 to 22 pupils and each grade has got two courses.
