Christmas in Portugal

Our Christmas
The Christmas season is magical! We celebrate the birth of Jesus, so it is the family feast.
At the beginning of December we make Christmas decorations.
The streets are adorned with lights, in our homes we do the Christmas tree and nativity scene.
Here in Vila Franca de Xira it doesn’t snow, therefore we can not do winter sports. But some of us enjoy the Christmas holidays and travel to the Serra da Estrela and there we can practice them.
On Christmas Eve the family meets for Christmas dinner. At supper we eat cod with boiled potatoes, the main course, and dessert strips, sonhos, bolo rei,
aletria, azevias,
pumpkin cookies...
After supper we exchange gifts with our family and we put one shoe on the crib so that Santa Claus leaves a gift there, that we open in the next morning when we wake up.
This is our Christmas!
